Napoli – Museo Cappella Sansevero 23 April – 18 July 2010
Raimondo di Sangro’s unusual and fascinating personality, creativity and research were brought to light with this exhibition of around twenty artworks that in the 18th century were considered “miraculous inventions”. The display revealed a new side to the personality of Raimondo di Sangro – prince, patron of arts, scientist – whose figure was often shrouded in the mystery and superstition that is rife in the ‘vicoli’ of Naples. Eighteenth century uniforms and clothes in precious brocade, artefacts in gold and precious stones, the extremely delicate archive documents and valuable paintings were displayed in the chapel’s nave and sacristy.
