A Nativity from Naples: Presepio Sculpture in the 18th Century
Fort Worth-Texas, Kimbell Art Museum 25 November 2008 – 25 January 2009
Around 60 pieces, including shepherds, animals and traditional accessories, lent by public institutions and private collections, were installed to create the classic nativity scene, complete in every detail. The project’s aim was to portray the heyday of the traditional Nativity scene in Naples, when the concept was to represent the profane world outside the Stable of the Nativity, a busy world in which the figurines taking part in a variety of daily activities. The unique workmanship of the pieces made tem particularly valuable, and great care was required in their transportation to the exhibition site in New Mexico, where they were positioned by our specialist personnel according to the strict criteria of historical nativity scenes.
